If you're looking for an ascension-into-heaven moment when dining in
Rome, just book a window table at this restaurant. As candles flicker
at your side, enjoy the nuova cucina (the Italian variation of nouvelle
cuisine) specials and sit back and watch the blue fade out of the dome
of St. Peter's. The rooftop restaurant of the Atlante Star hotel, in
the Prati section of Rome, has big window walls to frame the breathtaking
view of the Vatican, which is especially magical later in the evening
when the cupola's graceful curves are illuminated. The menu varies,
depending on what the chef chooses at the market. There are interesting
pasta dishes with porcini mushrooms or seasonal vegetables, classic
or creative risotto (for two), fresh seafood, and choice grilled meats.
When you reserve, ask for a table with a view of St. Peter's. Reservations
essential. Jacket and tie.
Tre
Pupazzi

Price: Under 40,000 lire - CURRENCY CONVERTER
Credit cards accepted: AE, MC, V.
Phone: 06-686-8371
The "three puppets" after which the trattoria is named are the worn
stone figures on a fragment of an ancient sarcophagus that embellishes
a building on this byway near the Vatican. The tavern, founded in 1625,
wears its centuries lightly, upholding a tradition of good food, courteous
service, and reasonable prices. The menu offers classic Roman/Abruzzese
trattoria fare, including fettuccine and abbacchio, plus pizzas at lunchtime
(a rarity in Rome) and well past midnight.
