Purpose,
Philosophy and Description.
The American University of Rome was founded in 1969 by a distinguished
group of American and Italian educators in order to promote cross-cultural
understanding in an international environment. It has pursued this
aim over many years by offering an American education in Rome to a
student body representing every continent in the world. The American
University of Rome provides an unparalleled learning experience for
students of all nationalities committed to knowledge, truth , and
the pursuit of international understanding. The American University
of Rome is the oldest independent, four-year, degree-granting, accredited
American institution of higher learning in Rome, Italy. Its goal is
to promote cultural ties through education in an international environment.
We offer the benefits of an American education taught by a multinational
faculty , in an international setting , to a student body representing
every continent of the world. The American University of Rome keeps
enrollments small in order to offer each student individual attention
. Classes characteristically .average 20 students, stressing an on-site
approach to acquiring knowledge. Art history lessons are held throughout
the city; international business students visit multinational companies;
students of international relations are taken to political party headquarters
; and communications students visit local TV stations and newspapers.
The University also hosts an international lecture series , publishes
a student-run newspaper and organizes a university soccer tournament
each semester. The student body is 70 percent American , 15 percent
Italian, and 15 percent multinational. The American University of
Rome provides its students with an international perspective in traditions
liberal arts and in business administration studies.
The
American University of Rome offers:
1. A program for students wishing to benefit front a complete
and highly qualified American academic program. These students may
enroll in any one of the seven different degree program offered at
the Associate and Bachelor degree levels . Students of ill nationalities
are eligible to seek admission in these programs.
2. A center for colleges and universities in the United States
who send their students for semester- or year-long study abroad programs
in art history, business administration, Italian language and literature,
mass media, music, international relations and related areas.
3. An undergraduate program which provides students with a
broad introduction to the traditions liberal arts and business studies.
Students may continue their studies elsewhere in Europe or in the
United States.
